Educational Tour for Preschool Coordinators

Preschool Coordinators participated in an educational tour organized by Tamils Rehabilitation Organization, Jaffna with the financial assistance of FORUT. The tour was conducted from 14.02.2004 to 18.02.2004

Joining the tour were Assistant Directors of education attached to Vadamarachi, Thenmaradchi, Vallikammam and Jaffna educational zones, and the Coordinator of the Centre for the Development for Preschool Education.

The tour visited places of importance in Vavuniya, Mannar, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu and Anaradhapura as well as preschools and children’s homes functioning in these areas.

Delegation Inspects Maruthankerni Welfare Project, Jaffna

A delegation inspected a housing project at Maruthankerni, implemented by TRO Jaffna in collaboration with NECORD, on 07.02.2004.

The delegation comprised Mr John Cooney, Sri Lankan representative for ADB, Mr Lankanesan, Project Director NECORD (North-East), Mr Navaratnarajah, Director NECORD (Jaffna), Mr Gangatharan, representative NECORD (Jaffna) and Mr S. Jeyaraj, District Director TRO Jaffna. Under this project 130 houses are being constructed at Navanthurai, Koddady and Sooriyaveli, in the secretary’s division of Maruthankerni, for the resettlement of displaced families.

The delegation also visited worksites at Addupaddy on 08.02.2004, where several projects including village reconstruction, supply of pipe borne water, reconstruction of roads, supply of electricity, construction of toilets and construction of a public hall are being implemented by TRO Jaffna. They expressed their appreciation for the services rendered to the victims of war.

The delegation handed over three water tanks to facilitate the supply of drinking water to the resettled families.

Preschool parents provide teacher incentive bonus

Parents of children attending Ilanthalir Preschool, Nedunkerny, have deposited Rs 8000/= in the Socio Economic Bank, Mallavi, to be used as an incentive bonus for teachers in the preschool.

The funds were handed over at a get-together of zonal teachers attached to the Centre for the Development of Preschool Education, presided over by Mr C.T. Moorthy, District Director of TRO Vavuniya.

Mr A. Vinayagamoorthy, Assistant Director of Preschool Education, Vavuniya North and several other distinguished guests attended the function.

Denmark donation for preschool development

Three preschools functioning in Vavuniya North have received financial aid from Tamils living in Denmark.

The Tamils Rehabilitation Organization, Denmark instigated the collection of funds from the Tamils living there to assist preschools in North-East Sri Lanka.

The beneficiary schools are Sivam Preschool (Vingnannkulam), Pinthamil Preschool (Periyamadu) and Bharathy Preschool (Kanagarayankulam).

Siththy Vinayagar Administrative Board, Tamils living in Seylan town and the Tamils Welfare Centre in Denmark have contributed liberally for the development of the three preschools.

பூந்தோட்டம் நலன்புரி நிலையம் நேற்றுத் தீயில் எரிந்து நாசமானது
115 குடும்பங்கள் நிர்க்கதி நிலையில்...

வவுனியா, பூந்தோட்டம் அகதி கள் நலன்புரி நிலையத்தில் நேற்று பிற்பகல் 1.30 மணியளவில் ஏற் பட்ட திடீர் தீ விபத்தில் 11 மண்டபங்கள் எரிந்து சாம்பலாகின. அங்கு வாழ்ந்த 115 குடும்பங்களின் உடை மைகளும் தீயில் எரிந்து நாசமாகின.

நலன்புரி நிலையத்தில் உள்ள மண்டபங்கள் பிரிக்கப்பட்டு ஒவ்வொரு குடும்பங்களுக்கும் தனித்தனியே வழங்கப்பட்டிருந்தன .திடீரென ஏற்பட்ட தீயினால் அங்கு தங்கியிருந்தவர்கள் தமது உடைமைகளை விட்டு பாதுகாப்புத்தேடி வெளியே ஓடினர். மின் ஒழுக்கு காரணமாக ஒரு மண்டபத்தில் தீ ஏற்பட்டது என்று கூறப்படுகின்றது. விரைவில் தீ ஏனைய மண்டபங்களுக்கும் பரவியது. உடைமைகளை இழந்து நிர்க்கதி நிலைக்குள்ளான 115 குடும்பங் களைச் சேர்ந்த 450 பேருக்கும் உட னடி உதவிகள் வழங்கப்பட்டன.

அகதிகளுக்கான ஐ.நா.தூதரகம், ஷயுனிசெவ், செஞ்சிலுவைச் சர்வதேசக்குழு, அரச சார்பற்ற நிறுவனங்களின் இணையம் ஆகியவற்றின் பிரதிநிதிகளும் வவுனியா செயலக அதிகாரிகளும் உடன் நிவாரணப் பணிகளில் இறங்கினர். அருகில் உள்ள வீடுகளில் அகதிகள் குடியமர்த்தப்பட்டனர். உதவிப் பொருள்களும் , நிவாரண உணவுப் பொருள்களும் அவர்களுக்கு வழங் கப்பட்டன .

தீ விபத்துக்கு மின் ஒழுக்கு காரணம் எனக் கூறப்பட்டபோதும் உண்மை நிலையை அறியப் பொலீஸார் விசாரணைகளை மேற்கொண்டுள்ளனர். தீ விபத்தில் இரு சிறுவர்கள் சிறு காயங்களுக்கு உள்ளாகினர். அவர்கள் வவுனியா வைத்தியசாலையில் சிகிச்சை பெற்றுள்ளனர்.
