NECORD capacity building workshop held in Vavuniya
North East Community Restoration and Development Project (NECORD) funded capacity building workshop with assistance from German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) for contractors from Vavuniya and Mannar districts was held in Vavuniya Ellapar Maruthankulam Agricultural Training center, sources said. This is the fifth workshop out of the eight planned workshops planned by the NECORD and GTZ.
Planning advisor for GTZ, Walter Keller, presided over the 3-day workshop.
Government Agent (GA) of Vavuniya, K.Ganesh, GA of Mannar, V.Viswalingam, and Vavuniya Political Head of the LTTE, Elilan participated during the opening event of the workshop.
"Our region has been devastated by two decades of war. We have to expedite our development activities to uplift our people living in many backward areas. We have to undertake and promote activities that build skills if we are to make rapid progress. This workshop will benefit people involved in rehabilitation, technical officers and contractors," said Mr.Elilan speaking at the event.
Workshops have already been conducted in Trincomalee, Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu. Following the workshop in Vavuniya, three workshops are to be held in Batticaloa in English, Tamil and Sinhalese languages.
GTZ is a Company owned by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany. GTZ is one of the official Planning and Implementation Agencies for the official German Development Cooperation.
