TRO Conducts Social Mobilization Training at Trincomalee.

A two-day Social Mobilization training program was held at the Provincial Education Ministry Human Resource center in Thulasipuram, Trincomalee on 14th and 15th August, 2003. The training program, conducted by Mr. Kalaivarnarn, Project Officer of the TRO Trincomalee and Mr. Malaravan of the TRO Head Office was attended by twenty volunteers from local villages. This is the fourth in a series of programs conducted in Trincomalee. Evaluation of the previous three phases has provided a basis for continuous improvement of the program content.


Norwegian special peace envoy meets Batticaloa NGOs Consortium.

Norwegian special peace envoy, Mr. Erik Solheim met with representatives of the Batticaloa District Non-Governmental Organizations' Consortium including Tamils Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO) Batticaloa on Thursday 14th August 2003.

President of the Batticaloa NGOs Consortium Mr.Kamalathas explained to the delegation that the resettlement of Meeravodai village, even though agreed to by the government, is unable to proceed. The Tamil families who fled during the 1990 violence in Meeravodai village were unable to resettle in their own lands as this is identified as an high security zone by the Sri Lankan army.

NGOs also expressed their frustration with the lack of progress in the implementation of projects.


TRO Pre-school supervisors appointed.

TRO held interviews on Thursday 07.08.2003 for supervisors for Pre-School Education centers in Mannar, which are part of TRO's Early Childhood Development Programme.

The interviews were conducted by TRO Mannar President Mr. P. Mariyanayagam Croos, Pre-School Assistant Education Director Mr. L.R. Mervin Croos, and Pre-School Education Development Center co-ordinator Mrs. S. Gowreeswary. The selectors were very pleased with the quality of applicants for the position. Two successful candidates were offered appointments.
